Microsoft’s Active Directory Service
The best new thing about NT 5.0; it provides these features:
- A global catalog service which permits users to search for objects in the enterprise network by using common properties such as office location, user’s last name, or e-mail address
- Secure network access to resources via SSL, Kerberos, and/or DPA (Distributed Password Authorization)
- Delegation of authority which allows network administrators to grant privileges to a given subset of users or objects
- Fault tolerant replication of directory service information (via NT RPC mechanism)
- Integration with DNS (Domain Name System namespace standards).
- Interoperability with Novell, LDAP, and older NT-bases systems.
